Welcome!

My interests cross the boundaries of forensic linguistics and language and the law. In the former, I apply corpus and discourse analytic methods to the examination of authorial stance in threatening communications, the language of parole board hearings, and other forensic contexts. In the latter, I apply corpus linguistic methods to the interpretation of meaning in legal statutes and to disputed meanings in trademark cases. I have trained law enforcement, lawyers, and judges across Canada and the U.S. and have worked on criminal and civil cases on a variety of linguistic topics.
